Canada will impose "reprisals" in response to Trump

Canadian Foreign Minister Christia Freeland said on Thursday that Canada would impose a US $ 16.8 billion (US $ 12.8 billion) counterfeit customs duty on US export.

The minister added that her country will challenge US import duties on steel and aluminum under the North American Free Trade Agreement and the World Trade Organization.

Freeland explained that Canadian customs duties are commensurate with US tariffs and will include US imports of steel and aluminum, as well as consumer goods.

Trudeau: American cartoons are an insult to our old security partnership
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told a news conference that US tariffs were "totally unacceptable".

"These cartoons are an affront to the long-standing security partnership between Canada and the United States, especially to the thousands of Canadians who fought and fought alongside American comrades," Trudeau said, noting that the United States has given its decision to protect its national security.
"We have to believe that at some stage the mood will prevail," he said. "Unfortunately, the actions taken today by the US government do not seem to be moving in that direction."

Trudeau was speaking hours after the United States imposed import duties on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union.
